With spiralling energy costs, uncertainty surrounding continuity of gas and oil supplies and the ever growing concern about global warming, increasing numbers of householders are turning to greener energy options.

Increased costs for traditional fossil fuel generated energy make the installation of renewable energy systems a very attractive proposition. As well as making a positive contribution to the environment, installation of these products will lower your household bills and can add significant value to your property.

There was a time when people added Roman or Greek furnitures to their rooms to give them an antique look.

Modern Architecture Garden and Lifestyle

About Eckersley Garden Architecture offers our clients a revitalised approach to creating a landscape. Merging experience and creativity, our passion is crafting a unique garden that invites you to enjoy your outdoor space. Iconic designer Rick Eckersley is joined by recent partners Scott Leung and Myles Broad to offer a wealth of knowledge in aesthetics and practical form.

Designed by McBride Charles Ryan this house has an amazing, cutting edge shape and a pool near it. All that is placed on a quite small allotment but outdoor area is more than cool for such small space. Street frontage planting sets a casual but vibrant tone to the property. Flowering grasses soften and spill over level changes, curtains of deep green creeper cascade over stone clad walls and the brilliant lilac of Jacaranda bloom splashes a hit of colour against the somber tone of the building. Boundary walls and fences were draped with climbing plants to provide green backdrops to the texture pavements. Further layering was done by using espaliered plantings in front of the walls. The positioning and selection of trees was critical to allow ease of movement around the property and to avoid congestion at canopy height. The result of the architect’s work is a harmonious but sometimes surprising outdoor space with the cutting edge house.[Via]

This contemporary loft was especially fun for us because it was a ground up project, and we were involved in designing every inch of it over the course of several years. The owners had extremely high standards and knew that they wanted something very special. Some of the lofts unique features include the following. It was designed as a "Smart Home" - lighting, fans, window treatments, HVAC, digital music and AV can all be controlled entirely via remote and integrated keypads. Bottom up shades and custom floor valances were designed to control urban views, provide privacy, and yet still allow for spectacular views and natural light. High-end finishes and furniture were featured. We designed a Bulthaup kitchen with an eleven-foot Cararra island, and incorporated end-grain wood floors, green onyx countertops, and custom-designed furniture and millwork.[Via]

Velvet Hammerschmidt Design streamlined the complete remodel of this 2,500 square foot house in the Pacific Palisades. With a modern hip young family in residence, there was a dire need to update the home which was originally built in 1962.

We designed the new functional kitchen layout and continued the white palette with brown accents for the finishes. The high tech kitchen was fully equipped with high end stainless steel appliances, Cararra countertops, and a large island accommodating seating for six.
Surprise pops of color can be found in the bathroom areas. Dynamic bold colored mosaic glass tiles added the punch in the new powder, guest and master bathrooms. The bathroom color palettes comprised of blues, greens, whites and grays which relate to the colors of the beach. We were responsible for the full design of the bathrooms including: cabinet design, fixture and finish selections including glass tiles and stone countertops.

Originally designed in 1963 by LA architect John Chapman, this house epitomizes the indoor/outdoor Modern experience, complete with architectural details such as an interior entry garden which houses a 20 foot tall ficus tree. We designed an interior that would compliment this zen-like garden experience and the client's extensive Asian art collection by drawing from a subdued Eastern color palette and a variety of textures. Our furniture selections blend vintage pieces with hip new elements - many of which we custom designed to meet specific client requests - including an L-shaped sofa, a modular cherry wood credenza, and a flexible-use cherry wood and glass coffee table that can be configured in three different ways. This interior is a great environment for the dot com mogul owner to meditate or socialize in.[Via]

Originally designed by the well-known 1950's LA architect Thornton Ladd to be a Korean parsonage, the challenge was to maintain the period Modern and Asian themes of the house while transforming the space into an updated and more comfortable environment. All of the interior finishes were renovated while portions of the house were completely gutted and remodeled.
